Why be Vaccinated?

  • 32% of persons over age 65 in Erie County have never had a pneumonia shot

Who should be vaccinated?

Annual Flu Vaccinations Are Recommended For:

  • All persons over age 18, even if healthy
  • Persons who have chronic illnesses such as lung or heart disease, diabetes, and kidney or immune system disorders
  • Persons who live with or work with persons at high risk, such as family members and caregivers
  • All healthcare workers
  • Persons living in crowded conditions, such as apartments and dormitories

Pneumonia Vaccinations Are Recommended For:

  • All persons over age 65
  • Persons under age 65 who have chronic illnesses such as lung or heart disease, diabetes
  • Persons who are in nursing homes or other chronic care facilities

How often do I need to be Vaccinated?

  • You need a flu shot every year
  • Pneumonia vaccinations are generally recommended once in a lifetime for persons over age 65
  • You need a doctor's consent for a pneumonia re-vaccination

Will the vaccines make me sick?

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirms you cannot get the flu from the vaccination because the viruses in the vaccine have been killed
  • The most common mild problems are soreness or redness where the shot was given

Is there a fee?

  • There is a $35 fee for a flu shot & $55 fee for a pneumonia shot
  • Fees will be billed to the participant's Primary Insurance plan
  • You must present your Primary Health Insurance card at any location
  • You are responsible for payment only if your insurance plan does not pay
